Carpet Care Tips

July 17th, 2013 · No Comments

Almost everyone has carpet or area rugs in their home or business and there are some tips that can help save them from long term damage after little accidents. Quick response to spots can prevent them from becoming permanent. Here you will find some some tips for maintaining your carpets and keeping them look like new longer.

  • Red Wine Spill– flush the spot with club soda and absorb with a towel
  • Blood Spots– flush the spots with cold water, not hot to avoid setting in the stain
  • Gum– freeze the gum with ice and use a dull knife to remove it
  • Candle Wax– place a brown paper bag over the dried wax and use a hot iron over it and then the bag will absorb the wax

When using any of these techniques do not over-saturate the carpet. Getting the carpet too wet could push the stain into the pad and further into the carpet making it permanent. Absorbing as much water as possible with towels by blotting the area and not scrubbing and allowing air movement to the area will lessen the likelihood of further staining or damage. Please try to not use household chemicals to remove spots because they lessen the ability for a spot to completely be removed if not properly handled.  We are more than happy to help you maintain your carpets and remove spots when you need us. Just give us a call.

Other ways to keep your carpet looking clean:

  • Have carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year
  • Vacuum carpets at least once a week to remove loose dirt
  • Use doormats to keep dirt in a smaller area
  • Make yourself at home and remove your shoes at the door
  • Protect the surface using a protectant like Scotchgard® Carpet Protector
  • Rotate furniture to change traffic paths.
  • Blot spills quickly with a clean cloth or towel
